The ritenuto indication is written only in Morch, in the part of clarinets. It is difficult to say why Chopin did not include it in A – perhaps he simply forgot it or did not feel the need to emphasise the slowdown he had already marked in bars 301-302 as poco a poco rallent., which is most probably still valid here (to bar 316). Due to the reminding nature of this marking, we suggest it in the main text in a variant form. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Editorial revisions |

According to us, the chromatic descending scale must be performed a tempo. It is possible that Chopin had to be satisfied with the marking leggieremente, which suggests a change of approach – the passages in bars 311 and 315, in spite of the very neutral dynamics, are not associated with "lightness." The ritenuto appearing in bar 324 may be considered an additional argument for changing the tempo in bar 317. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

In the main text we adopt the newer form of this adverb, introduced in GE1 (we correct the erroneous 'o' at the end of the word to an 'e'). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , Errors in GE , GE revisions , FE revisions |

In this case – cf. bar 313 – a return to tempo primo at the recapitulation of the main theme is obvious to the pianist. However, it is not that obvious to the strings, performing a non-characteristic accompaniment. This explains the omission of a tempo in A (→GE→FE→EE). In the main text we suggest it in a variant form. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources |

The indication Solo is present only in GE and EE; in both editions it was probably added by the revisers. The absence of the indication in FE suggests that in GE1 it was added in the last stage of proofreading. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in A |
