b. 450-451

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Same as in the entire Concerto, the wedge of A at the beginning of bar 450 was reproduced in the editions as a dot. In turn, the absence of the staccato mark at the beginning of bar 451 must be considered an inaccuracy of A (→GE1→FE→EE). A sign – a dot – was added in GE2, most probably on the basis of comparison with analogous bars. Therefore, due to the same reason, we add a wedge in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions , Wedges |

GE1 (→FE) include two whole-bar slurs in bars 451-452, which is a typical distortion of the slurring of A. However, since an ending of the slur was printed at the beginning of bar 453 (in a new line), we assume that the slur from bar 452 reaches – in accordance with A – the 1st crotchet in bar 453. This is how it was reproduced in EE. In GE2 an arbitrary division of the slur before the 2nd beat in bar 452 was applied, same as in all the remaining analogous bars. In the main text we give the slur of A, the only undoubtedly authentic one. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Errors in GE , GE revisions |

We regard the absence of the accent as Chopin's oversight, since the mark is present in the three remaining analogous bars – bars 412, 420 and 460. EE added a in this place, after the sign present in FE (→EE) in bar 410. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions |

The crossings-out visible in A in bars 453-454 and 461-462 allow us to reconstruct the two previous versions of the accompaniment in these bars: The first version appeared in [AI] probably also in bars 421-422, which is proved by certain remaining elements thereof in the notation of A (and which explains them at the same time) – cf. both notes on the L.H. in bar 422. If one of the previous versions was also in bars 413-414, one could conclude that Chopin's concentration was decreasing as he was copying similar phrases:
