b. 80

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

A (→GE) & EE2 (→EE3)

FE (→EE1)

..

In the main text we give the version of FE (→EE1), proofread by Chopin. The version of A (→GE) may be used as a variant for a smaller hand. EE2 (→EE3) introduced the earlier version, most probably on the basis of comparison with GE.

4 dots in A

5 dots in GE (→FEEE)

..

The missing dot over the last note in the bar in A seems to be an inaccuracy – perhaps ink did not come at the last sign. The dot was added already in GE1, which – although Chopin's proofreading cannot be excluded – was probably a routine action of the engraver (cf. bar 76).

Slurs to grace notes in A & GE2

No signs in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The missing small slurs next to both grace notes in this bar is almost certainly an oversight of the engraver of GE1 (→FEEE). The signs were added in GE2.

Staccato dot in A & GE2

No mark in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The overlooked staccato dot in the majority of the editions is most probably a result of an oversight of the engraver of GE1. The sign in GE2 was added after A.
