One could be looking for Chopin's proofreading in  appearing in the editions. However, according to us, a misunderstanding is more likely – the engraver may have introduced by mistake the marking from the previous bar, or, upon looking at the bottom of the page of ½A, he repeated  written under the double bass part in Morch.

The change of  to  is a quite common mistake, also in combination with  (cf. e.g. bar 233 and 247 as well as bar 199). Admittedly, in the discussed place the situation is slightly different, yet it is also a misunderstanding of the notation of A that is the most likely reason thereof. Therefore, in the main text we stick to the notation of A.

According to us, the  indication is to be interpreted as valid already from the beginning of the bar. It is one of examples of the manner of introducing indications within the scope of their validity, used sometimes by Chopin, particularly in his earlier works. In GE (→FE→EE)  was most probably linked with the entrance of the L.H.
