The sign added in FED over the g2-d3 quaver probably means staccato, which is indicated by the vertical line separating this quaver from the next semiquaver. The sign looks like a wedge, however, one has to remember that Chopin teaching entries are often careless and they usually deviate from the standard forms of signs. Moreover, the line, doubling the function of the rest, proves that the aim of the entries was most probably a correction of an erroneous performance; in addition, this kind of corrective entries are sometimes exaggerated. Due to this reason, in the main text we suggest a milder version of staccato. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources |

The change of the font of accents is a characteristic inaccuracy of first editions. In this case, it is the correct interpretation of Chopin's intention in GE1 that is more puzzling, since the first two signs in A are clearly longer than the remaining two and one could expect they would have been reproduced as a hairpin. It is difficult to explain the difference in approach to long accents between bars 99 and 100, since in A the signs in bar 100 are not longer than the previous ones at all. Perhaps they key to solving the puzzle is the overlooked third accent: if initially GE1 overlooked all accents in this bar, Chopin, while proofreading the edition, could have added the first two, which, this time, were incorrectly reproduced as . category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Errors in GE , GE revisions , EE inaccuracies |

The long accents over the syncopated chords in the L.H. were reproduced quite accurately in the editions, except for EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE inaccuracies |

The long accent over the penultimate semiquaver was erroneously reproduced in GE1 as a short accent under the last note. In FE (→EE) the accent was placed under the 1st note of the last four semiquavers, which may be a result of Chopin's proofreading. In the main text we give the version of A, since it is uncertain whether Chopin actually changed his mind on accents in the ending of this bar; even if it was him that corrected the text of FE in this place, he would be changing the erroneous accent adopted from GE1 and not the text of A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |
