Slurs

b. 276-278

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slur in bar 278 in A (literal reading)

2 slurs in GE (→FE)

2 slurs in EE

Slur in bars 276-278 suggested by the editors

..

In A bar 277 is the last one on the page and it does not contain phrase marks. In turn, in bar 278 there is a slur suggesting a continuation from the previous bar. Therefore, it seems that Chopin forgot to write the initial part of the slur, most probably of the one with which he embraced that phrase in bars 128-130. This is the slur we suggest in the main text. In GE, next to the slur in bar 278, roughly reproduced, a slur of a similar range was added also in bar 277. If the implemented proofreading had been inspired by Chopin, which cannot be excluded, it would be a correction of an ad hoc nature rather than an intended variation of phrasing.

b. 278-279

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

No slurs in A

3 slurs in GE (→FEEE)

..

The slurs of GE (→FEEE) could have been added by Chopin; however, according to us, it is highly unlikely due to their schematic range, whose relationship with the figuration's structure is largely unconvincing.

b. 280

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slur to d1 in A

Slur to e1 in GE (→FEEE)

..

The slur of A seems to be inaccurate – in this context it is difficult to assume that ewere to be separated from the previous quavers (cf. analogous bar 132). Therefore, the version of GE may be a result of Chopin's proofreading.

b. 280-281

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slurs in A & GE2

Slurs in GE1

Slur in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the slurs of A (and GE2), certainly the only authentic ones – cf. the corresponding place in the exposition, with identical slurs in all sources. The slurs of GE1 are inaccurate here, whereas in FE (→EE) the first of them was omitted on top of that.

b. 282-283

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slurs in A & GE2

Slurs in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The well thought out moment of division of the slur was very carefully marked in A (there are visible traces of a correction). In spite of this, in GE1 (→FEEE) the slurs were adjusted to bars.
