b. 49

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

Before the last pair of octaves in the L.H. there are no flats in A, as a result of which they should be read as A-a. Chopin's oversight, corrected already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2), is proved by the flats in the parts of all instruments performing the bass line visible in Morch.

b. 49

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

In A the repeated quavers in the parts of both hands are written in an abbreviated manner as quaver tremolos. In GE1 (→FE) the notation was preserved only in the first half of the bar, while in EE and GE2, same as in the main text, all abbreviations were explained.

In GE the entire first Tutti was printed – certainly erroneously – in a font of a normal size.

Omissions of dashes marking the range of a dynamic change is a typical inaccuracy of Chopin first editions. The  sign, added perhaps by Chopin in the proofreading of GE1, seems to be an ad hoc attempt to correct this inaccuracy, see the adjacent note. Due to this reason, in the main text we leave the notation of A.

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

The  sign, unless it is a result of a misunderstanding, could have been added by Chopin in the proofreading of GE1. One could see here either a suggestion of a slightly changed dynamic concept, where the climax of the crescendo would fall already in the middle of this bar, or an ad hoc attempt to replace the overlooked dashes marking the range of the crescendo. Taking into account the above doubts, in the main text we preserve the notation of A without this sign – see the previous note.
