b. 92

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

e & a-c1-g1 in As & GE

a & c1-gin A (→FEEE)

..

The version of As and GE is the original version, printed probably by mistake in FE, in which, however, it was corrected – certainly in consultation with Chopin – in the last phase of proofreading.

b. 93

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

6 notes in As, possible interpretation of FES

7 notes in AI, AII, AIII & A (→FEGE,EE)

8 notes in FES, more likely reading

..

A possible Chopin variant, added probably with the pupil's hand in FES, can be interpreted in two ways, according to us. As the text of this source we adopt the most likely interpretation, in which the added note is supposed to be simply added to the printed ones. However, the slur may signalise which notes create an entire bar – a supposition supported by the undeniable authenticity of the version, included in As. See also bar 95, in which we discuss a possibility of continuing the variant.

EEW1 (→EEW2) includes a cautionary  before the penultimate quaver, a2. A sign in this place – in bar 21 is also in AII and AIII. In As the  is written – in bar 21, which was written out – before the 2nd quaver, g2; in AII and AIII one can see deletion of this sign.

According to us, the addition in FES in bar 93 could have been performed as a model scheme, which is also to be applied in this bar. This kind of extension of a variant seems to be indicated particularly in the 8-note version. On the other hand, in As we find confirmation of the scheme for the 6-note version (written as one of possibilities in bar 23). Below we give two possibilities – absent in the sources – of extension for the 8-note version:

 or .

b. 95-124

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

..

Due to the notation with the use of Dal Segno, in the presentation autographs there is no text on this page. Due to the reasons discussed in the characterization of As, we write out the reprise with notes until the end of the text of this source in bar 108.
