Contextual interpretation of A suggested by the editors

..

At the repetition of bars 41-44 the sources are not free from mistakes and inaccuracies – none of the editions consistently repeated the same interpretation of A. Cf. the note in these bars.

In all editions except for GE2 (→GE3→GE4) the pedalling indications in bars 153-154 and 157-158 were overlooked.

Our suggestion

..

Taking into account the double, compatible correction of Chopin in bars 12 and 60, we consider the version of the editions in this place to be non-authentic. The engraver of FE probably generalised the extension of quavers falling on the main beats of the bar, which could have been both a mistake and a revision.

b. 167

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

..

Like in previous occurrences of this bar A (→FEEE1) has no  raising g1 to g1 on the 4th L.H. quaver. The obvious oversight was corrected in GE and EE2.

Shorter  in A

Longer sign in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The longer  hairpins in FE (→GE,EE) may be a result of Chopin's proofreading. However, it is not certain, hence in the main text we leave the version of A, in which the sign does not deviate from its counterparts in bars 16, 64 and 120. The notation of the editions may be, however, considered to be an equal variant, as from the musical point of view, it is equally justified as the notation of A.
