b. 38

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

..

A has no accidentals next to the first quaver on the 3rd beat. However, Chopin put  before the upper note (c) of the last L.H. semiquaver. As in the previous bar this is a mistake, corrected partly or completely in all the editions:

  • FE moved  from the last L.H. semiquaver to the quaver on the 3rd beat;
  • GE and EE also added naturals to the R.H. octave.

b. 39

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

Slur in A, GE2 (→GE3GE4) & EE2

No sign in FE (→GE1,EE1)

..

The omitted slur is probably an oversight by the engraver of FE (→GE1,EE1). The remaining editions added the slur undoubtedly after a comparison with the analogous bar 143.

b. 40

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

Slur from semiquavers in A

Bar-long slur in FE (→EE,GE)

..

The slur of A, although quite clearly exceeding the notes it embraces, concerns, according to us, only the repeated f-foctaves. The whole-bar slur of FE (→GE,EE) is, therefore, almost certainly erroneous.
