b. 17

Fingering added in bar 29 in FES

..

b. 17-29

composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor

A: 4 wedges in bars 17, 21, 25, 29

GE1: 3 dots in bars 21, 25, 29

FE (→EE) and GE2 (→GE3): 4 dots

..

The wedges in A are very clear, particularly in bars 17 and 25, yet in GE (→FEEE) there are only dots (cf. bar 1.). In bar 17 in GE1 the sign was omitted, which Chopin corrected when proofing FE (→EE). In the editors' opinion, that correction should be understood as supplementing the staccato sign in bar 17, in line with bars 21, 25 and 29, rather than replacing a wedge with a dot in bar 17.

b. 17

composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor

..

In GE1 (→FE) Chopin's indication dolce was replaced with the abbreviation dol. We expand that currently obsolete abbreviation to its original full form, which has already been done in EE and GE2 (→GE3).

b. 17

composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor

..

In A (→GE1) there is no cautionary  before f1. The sign was supplemented in FE (→EE) and GE2 (→GE3). The addition in FE is probably part of Chopin's proofing of that edition.

b. 17-18

composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor

Long accents in A

One long accent in  GE1

A short accent in FE (→EE1)

Short accents in  GE2 (→GE3) and EE3

..

The clear notation of A was distorted by the omission of the accent in bar 18 in GE1 (→FEEE1) and changes of accent shapes in FE (→EE) and GE2 (→GE3).
