In GC the 7th semiquaver in the R.H. was erroneously combined with the group of semiquavers from the 1st half of bar. This also resulted in wrong slurring – the slurs embrace 7 and 5 semiquavers. GE did not repeat those errors. category imprint: Source & stylistic information issues: Inaccuracies in GC |

In A, the first slur in each bar clearly reaches the 4th quaver, but only FE reproduced it that way. Both the copyist and the engraver in EE found the notation of A inaccurate, and lead the slurs only to the 3rd quaver. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

In GC (→GE), the missing second slur in bar 193 is undoubtedly an oversight. The second slur in bar 194 encompasses – in distinct contrast to A – the entire 2nd half of the bar. Three-note slurs in the 2nd halves of these bars occur also in EE. The slurs in A pertain clearly to the last two quavers, and their relatively long ends were presumably meant to distinguish them from semiquaver beams in the R.H. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in GC , Errors of GC |

The L.H. slur added in FE is one of a few elements indicating a perfunctory revision (by the editor, Fontana, Chopin?) of FE1. We give it in the main text because this phrase echoes the beginning of the Ballade, where parts of both hands were provided with slurs by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: FE revisions |
