Four-quaver slurs in A (→FE)

Three-quaver slurs in GC (→GE) & EE

The slurs in the L.H. in bars 193-194 posed numerous difficulties to the editors. In Chopin's intention, which is distinctly noted in A, the slurs embrace the quaver groups in accordance with the direction of the melodic line, i.e. |4-2|4-2|. Chopin's intention was interpreted correctly only in FE, in which, however, as a result of a mistake, only the first slur in bar 193 and 194 was written. EE arbitrarily changed the pattern of slurs to |3-3|3-3|.
In GC the first slur in both bars is somewhat shorter than in A, enough, however, to change its meaning, all the more since the second slur in bar 194 starts already on the 4th quaver (the second slur in bar 193 is absent). GE reproduced th GC version without ambiguity as |3-0|3-3|.
