b. 44-45
|
composition: Op. 10 No 3, Etude in E major
..
Same as in bars 42-43, in AI the entire dyad passage is performed by the R.H., while each of the next pairs is a repetition of the previous one octave lower. In this case, by deciding to divide the passage between the hands, Chopin additionally changed notes in four dyads foreseen for the L.H. This final version was written in its final form already in A (→FE→GE,EE). category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

In the editions, when the beam combined two notes out of which one was at the end of the line of the text and the other at the beginning of the next one, one did not use broken beams – both notes were provided with stems (semiquaver or quaver). In FE (→EE) it concerns bars 44-45, 47-48, 51-52 and 55-56, while in GE – bars 44-45, 47-48, 50-51, 53-54, 57-58 and – adopted from FE – 55-56. In mUltimate Chopin we consider these differences only in the case of quavers in bars 55-56 and 57-58. Cf. bars 58-60. category imprint: Source & stylistic information issues: GE revisions , FE revisions |

In A (→FE→GE1,EE2) Chopin omitted the last of the slurs embracing the next pairs of semiquavers. It is almost certainly an oversight, therefore, in the main text we suggest to add the slur. The subsequent GE and EE have all slurs here. AI, in which all pairs of semiquavers are ascribed to the R.H., has one slur over the entire passage. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions |

According to us, it is most probably the full indication written in A that is the only authentic one, while the omission of its first part in the editions is a mistake of the engraver of FE (→GE,EE) – cf. the adjacent note. However, Chopin might have accepted the indications of the editions in such form (cf. e.g. the Etude in E major, No. 11). In turn, it is hard to state whether the change in GE4 (→GE5) of con fuoco to con forza is a mistake or revision. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Errors in GE |
