Pedalling
b. 5-17
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
In bars 5, 7, 9 and 13, 15 & 17 in GE1 (→FE→EE) the marks were placed under the 3rd crotchet. This contradicts the notation of A, in which those asterisks were placed earlier, more or less in the middle of the bar. In GE2 (→GE3) the marks were moved even further towards the end of the bar. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions |

b. 10-12
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
The engraver of GE1 (→FE→EE) matched the marks to the beats of the accompaniment. As a result of changes in those bars, and also in bar 5 and analogous bars, in the listed editions all the marks are placed in the same way (under the 3rd beat of the bar), against the notation of A. In GE2 (→GE3) the marks were moved to reflect the notation of A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

b. 18
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
In A, the whole-bar pedalling is written. Lack of markings in GE1 (→FE→EE) may be either a result of Chopin's correction (as the comparison with the analogous bars 50 and 112 suggests) or the engraver's omission (as suggested by lack of any traces of deletions and by the omission of pedalling in the following bar 19). In GE2 (→GE3), the markings were added on the basis of A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

b. 19
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
The whole-bar pedalling of A was omitted in GE1 (and restored back in GE2 and GE3 in accordance with A). When proofing FE Chopin restored pedalling in that bar, yet he placed the asterisk earlier than in A, before the 3rd beat of the bar. We consider this to be his final decision. In EE the mark was omitted. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

b. 20
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
Lack of pedalling in A (→GE1→FE→EE) may be the result of Chopin's scattered attention connected with correcting the form of the Mazurka (deletion of the repetition of bars 5-20). Therefore we suggest supplementing the markings in line with analogous bar 52. A similar adjustment was made in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |
