b. 92-95

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Dynamic markings in A

GE2 (→GE3)

The editors' proposition

..

The dynamic markings in those bars are consistent in the sources as regards their essential meaning, yet they differ in graphic details. For our main text we adopt the version combined from authentic elements of A (the moment of beginning the cresc. in bar 92) and of FE as corrected by Chopin (the extent of dashes delimiting the scope of the dynamic change).

A triad in A (→GE)

A  four-note chord in  FE (→EE)

..

As the 2nd crotchet A (→GE) has the chord e flat-g flat-c1, as in the previous bar. In the proofing of FE (→EE) Chopin added the note A flat and the arpeggio wavy line.

A long accent in A

A short accent in GE1 (→FEEE)

An accent in the L.H. in GE2 (→GE3)

..

A long accent in A was reproduced in GE (→FEEE) as a short one. in GE2 (→GE3) the mark is clearly written for the left hand part, which does not follow from the notation of A.

Slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

The editors' alternative proposition

..

In the main text we give the generally consistent version of the sources; the only difference is the lack of ending of the second slur at the beginning of bar 94 (in a new line). In this context, those slurs practically mean the same as a single slur, therefore for the purpose of coherence with the notation of the neighbouring bars we suggest that solution here as well.

Wedges in A

Dots in GE (→FE)

Without the 1st dot in EE

..

The two distinct wedges visible in A were reproduced in GE (→FEEE) as dots, and in EE the first of them was omitted.
