b. 70-72
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major
..
The exact moment when the slur beginning in bar 70 ends is not clearly marked in A: if one were to be guided solely by the graphic image, one should rather end the slur on the 1st crotchet of bar 72. However, leaving the 2nd crotchet unslurred is musically unconvincing, so the solution adopted in GE (→FE→EE) seems correct. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

The first quaver f is written slightly too high in A, so in GE1 it was read as g flat. The mistake was corrected in FE (→EE), as well as in GE2 (→GE3) category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Inaccurate note pitch in A |

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

A has visible traces of the highest note of the 2nd chord in the L.H. having been corrected from f1 to e1. The resulting a-c1-e1 chord was reproduced in GE, and through GE it also appeared in FE, where Chopin corrected the chord again restoring the a-c1-f1 version. That ultimate version, repeated in EE, can be found in our main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Chopin's hesitations , Accompaniment changes , Authentic corrections of FE |

A (→GE1→FE→EE) has a before a1. As the use of that natural is quite unnecessary in the context, we omit it from our main text. It was also removed from GE2 (→#FE3). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Cautionary accidentals |

b. 98

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

The version of A (→GE) here is identical with bars 14 and 46. Chopin changed it when proofing FE (→EE), introducing a varied version of the melodic motif. However, the initial version of the slurring was left unchanged, which is an oversight of the engraver, or of Chopin himself. As the corrected version of the motif is the same as the one that Chopin used in bars 18 and 50, in our main text we propose a slur modelled on Chopin's slurring in those bars. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Main-line changes |
