Slur end in A, literal reading

Contextual interpretation of A (→GEFEEE

Taking into consideration numerous instances of hastily and broadly written slurs in A, one should end the slur in bar 72 over the 1st crotchet. However, musical arguments support the interpretation of the notation of A adopted in  GE (→FEEE), as:

  • leaving one unslurred crotchet does not agree with the general indication sempre ... legato;
  • a slur ending on the 1st crotchet would suggest phrasing of the R.H. accompaniment independent of the melody in the L.H. ; this suggestion would be hard to reconcile with the notation stressing the role of the R.H. part as a discreet background (small notes, sempre piano e legato).
