b. 31

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

No slurs in A

Continuous slur in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

2 slurs suggested by the editors

..

Leaving one of the four similar figures without slurs must be considered Chopin's oversight, hence in the main text we suggest supplementing slurs after the previous bars. The slur added in GE (→FE,EE,IE) changes the Chopinesque scheme for no apparent reason.

b. 31

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

..

Just like the other slurs added in this fragment, the GE slur (→FE,EE,IE) is inconsistent with the authentic slurs in bars 28-30. In the main text we leave here the authentic notation without L.H. slurs, as the performance of this part is indicated by the slurs added by us over the R.H. part.

b. 32-36

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

..

In the main text we add cautionary flats to b in bars 32-34 and to B in bar 35. By contrast, we omit the  to B in bar 36, entered into A (→GEFE,EE,IE) yet already unjustified here.

b. 32-35

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

8 short accents in A (literal reading→GEFE,EE,IE)

8 long accents in A, contextual interpretation

..

The marks in the form of accents, generally short, visible in A are mainly placed between the last two quavers of subsequent halves of bars, and this is how they were reproduced in GE (→FE,EE,IE), probably as short diminuendoes. In the main text we reproduce them as long accents over the 3rd and 7th quaver, which is consistent with the L.H. slurs and with one of the Chopinesque ways of marking such accents.
Similarly, in bars 36-39; see also bars 33-34.

b. 32-35

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

No fingering in A (→GEFE,IE)

Fingering in EE

..

In the main text, we do not include the inauthentic fingering added by EE. The digit for B1 in bar 33 (1, i.e. the 2nd finger) is certainly wrong – it was supposed to be a 4 (i.e. the 5th finger).
