b. 38

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

g repeated in sources

g tied, our suggestion

..

In the main text we suggest adding a tie to g due to the notation in analogous bar 24 and 202. It is likely that the tie could have been overlooked in A, as the bar opens a new page.

b. 38

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In A Chopin wrote only one cautionary accidental before this chord – a  to e3. GE (→FE,EE,IE) also added a  to e2, which we include in the main text. See also the note above.

b. 38

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

c3 in A (→GEFE,EE)

No c3 in IE

c3 with  suggested by the editors

..

It is difficult to say why the c3 minim is absent in IE. An oversight seems unlikely; therefore, it could have been a revision that omitted this note due to analogous bar 202 and the presence of only 4 slurs combining this chord with the next one. In the main text we include the note, clearly written in A, and add a cautionary  to it.

b. 39

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

Slur in A

No slur in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The absence of the slur in the editions most probably resulted from an oversight, as it is poorly visible in A.
