b. 4-8

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

Short accents in FC (→GE) & FE

Vertical accents in EE

..

The use of vertical accents (unauthorised by Chopin) – instead of common, short horizontal accents in bars 4 and 8 – is a frequent phenomenon in first English editions.

b. 5-13

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

..

In bars 5 and 13, in the main text we add a cautionary  to G in the bass and to g1 in the R.H. The latter was also added in both bars in GE (added in crayon in FC) and in bar 5 also in EE.

b. 7

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

 after 3rd beat in sources

on 3rd beat suggested by the editors

..

The  asterisk having been added after the 3rd crotchet must be an inaccuracy of the pedalling of [A], perhaps added in haste. There are no musical reasons for mixing harmonies in this place. See also bars 17-18 and 20-22.

b. 8-9

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

in bar 8 in FC (→GE)

in bar 9 in FE (→EE)

..

The difference in the position of  could result from the vague [A] notation, in which the mark was probably in the place of the bar line (Chopin would write separate bar lines on each stave). The musical context requires  to be introduced already from d2 in bar 8, hence in the main text we put it at the end of this bar, in accordance with FC (→GE).

b. 8

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

..

In FE the last R.H. note is a crotchet, as a result of which the bar includes 7 quavers. In the main text we correct this mistake after the FC notation (→GE); this version is also in EE.
