b. 69-70

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

The sources differ in the range of the crescendo hairpins. In A the place of their ending is uncertain – the upper arm reaches the bar line, while the lower one reaches the minim in bar 70. In GE the hairpins were placed in entire bar 69. In FE the beginning of crescendo was put under the last quaver of the 1st triplet group, while in EE – at the beginning of the 2nd group. We adopt the notation of A, taking into account the longer arm of the hairpins.

We add the accidentals returning f2 and e2 on the 10th and 12th notes in the R.H., which were omitted in A, FE and EE. The additions were already made in GE (in GE1 only the natural next to f2) and EE2. It is a typical error of Chopin.

b. 71

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

EE has the f1 note on the penultimate quaver in the R.H. Due to the fact that A, FE and EE1 are lacking the accidentals returning f2 i e2 before the 10th and 12th quavers, it seems that the fact of adding the  can be attributed to the reviser of EE1 who was misled by fon the 10th note of the bar, which had not been cancelled. The sign was not deleted in EE2.

The sources differ in the positioning of the indication dolciss. (=dolcissimo). In A it is put over the great stave, in GE and FE it is between the pentagrams, while in EE – over the great stave, yet much more to the right.

The slurs in A (→GE) in bars 71-73 begin from the 2nd crotchet in the L.H. and end on the bar line. In FE and EE the slurs include the entire bars in the L.H., which can be a result of the inaccurate notation of the lost base texts or of the original notation of analogous figures in the L.H. in bars 55 or 65.
