b. 64

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

Chopin wrote the staccato dot in A; it is also present in GE and EE. FE has a wedge here – perhaps such a sign was in the lost base text (manuscript) for FE. As a matter of fact, the editors would interpret Chopin's wedges as dots or in an arbitrary manner, they consciously changed them; in this case, the sign had to be clear enough for the editors not to revise them.

In A the accent on the 1st crotchet in the L.H. is placed under the lower pentagram. In all other sources it is over the lower pentagram.

The slur in A undoubtedly concerns the deleted original version. The interpretation of the slur made in GE – most probably on the basis of analogous figures – is certainly correct. The slurs in FE and EE are rather inaccurate (cf. bars 55-59).

FE is lacking the dot on the 1st crotchet in the L.H., which is certainly an oversight.

In A Chopin deleted the pedal release from the end of bar 65 and put it after the 2nd crotchet. The first version is included only in FE.
