b. 13

composition: Op. 28 No. 19, Prelude in E♭ major

..

In A there is no  lowering g1 to g1 in the 1st triplet and no  raising f1 to f1 in the 3rd triplet. What is more, the crossing-out before the first note suggests that Chopin crossed out the initially written  (see b. 29). The accidentals were added in GE and EE2 (in EE1 only the ).

b. 14-22

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In this Prelude Chopin generally did not put accidentals before the top notes of broken octaves – see b. 1-4. In the discussed bars, the problem concerns the following notes:

  • in b. 14 c2, d2, d2 and e2,
  • in b. 15 and 17 e2, d2, f2 and g2,
  • in b. 16 e2, d2, f2 and b2,
  • in b. 18 e2, d2, f2 and e2,
  • in b. 19 e2,
  • in b. 21 a2, b2 and e3.

Such a notation is in A (→FC,FE), whereas EE, GE1 and GE2 added the majority of the necessary accidentals (21, 18 and 22 out of necessary 24, respectively).

b. 15

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

..

The  restoring b1 in the 2nd half of the bar is absent in all sources. It must be Chopin's mistake, one of his most frequent errors.

b. 16

composition: Op. 28 No. 24, Prelude in D minor

..

FE (→EE1) omitted the dot prolonging the crotchet b1. The error was corrected in EE2, the remaining sources also have the correct text.

b1 in sources, contextual interpretation

a1 suggested by the editors

..

In all sources, the 3rd demisemiquaver in the 2nd group is a b1 (literal interpretation). It is the initial uncorrected version, left by inadvertence – in A, initially, the 3rd demisemiquaver in the first two figures of each of b. 15-18 was a b1, which Chopin then changed to a1 in 7 out of 8 places. Such an oversight in correcting one of a few analogous places would happen to Chopin on a few occasions. The fact that he forgot the discussed note while performing corrections is also evidenced by it having been left without a , which was before the respective note of the 1st group of the bar in the initial version.
