b. 10

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

e-g in FE1, GE & EE

B-d-g in FE0

..

On the 2nd and 3rd crotchet FE0 has B-d-g chords. Chopin changed them for the e-g thirds both in FEG (→GE) and in the base texts to FE and EE. Lack of respective change in analogous bar 182 is probably a result of an oversight.

b. 17-18

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt III

No signs in GC (→GE) & FE

 & accent in EE

  suggested by the editors

..

The   signs are only in EE, added most probably by Chopin in the base text to this edition. The sign in bar 18, having a form of an accent under the chord on the 2nd beat of the bar, is almost certainly a result of misunderstanding of the entry of Chopin – in the original graphical layout the chords in the L.H. are divided between both staves, as a result of which the  written between the staves can be understood as referring to the L.H. only (similarly in bar 26). In the main text we suggest a much more likely interpretation of these signs, given in EE in the recapitulation (bars 72 and 80).

b. 21

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

..

In FEG (→GE1) there are no accidentals in this bar. A comparison with analogous bars 13, 185 and 193 proves a mistake (probably of the engraver). The remaining sources added the necessary naturals raising D to D and d to d

Articulation marks in bar 21 in GC (→GE)

No marks in FE

Articulation marks in 3 bars in EE

..

The articulation signs – dots and accents – in bar 21 could have been added in GC (→GE) by Chopin. They are probably to be considered to be valid also in the subsequent similar bars, namely 23 and 25-27. The idea was partially implemented in EE, in which the same indications were added in bars 21, 23 and 25, which can be ascribed to Chopin's intervention in the base text to this edition. See also bars 210-213.

Slur in EE

Our variant suggestion

..

The slur in EE could have been added by Chopin. As an editorial revision is, however, also possible, in the main text we suggest a variant solution with a slur in brackets.
