composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

The cautionary naturals before the 1st L.H. octave were added by FE (→GE,EE). It is uncertain whether it was performed by Chopin. composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

The absence of the mark in GE is certainly an oversight, perhaps partially influenced by the FE layout, where the wedge was placed very close to the octave sign. A similar situation occurred in bar 156. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

The ending of the A slur in bar 153 must be inaccurate. To the main text we adopt the GE interpretation thereof (→EE,IE). The later starting point of the slur in FE is most probably a mistake by the engraver. This slur, together with the one in bar 150, undoubtedly means that the entire quaver sequence should be performed continuously legato, as in similar contexts the division of slurs falling on strong beats was often considered irrelevant. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Errors in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

The GE version (→FE,EE,IE) is most probably due to a mistake by the engraver, who either misinterpreted the narrow (most probably added later) category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |

In EE one fingering digit was added, completely apparent in this context. It is difficult to imagine that Chopin would have wanted to deal with such a minor detail. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |
