Issues : Authentic corrections of EE

b. 174

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

..

On the 2nd and 3rd crotchets in FE there is no c1. Chopin completed this deficiency in FEG (→GE). EE also features the correct version.

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

d1 in GC (→GE) & FE

d1 in EE

..

The version with d1 (=e1) is probably erroneous – situations in which there is no sign, cancelling the previous alteration, belong to the most frequently encountered inaccuracies of Chopin's notation. Moreover, it is likely that the composer rectified his mistake, while correcting the base text to EE. Adding a cautionary  before c1 is a poorly justified revision of GE2.

Slurs in GC & GE2

Slur in FE1 (→FE2)

Slurs in FE3 (→FE4) & EE

Slurs in GE1

Slurs suggested by the editors

..

The slurring of particular sources seems to convey Chopin's idea only approximately. In the main text, we suggest an interpretation of the slurs of GC based on the slurs written in a more precise manner in analogous bars 57-60. See also bar 189.

b. 185

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

FE1 (→FE2) features an E as the 1st note in the L.H. This striking mistake was corrected only in FE3 (→FE4) and EE. In spite of the fact that it was Chopin that prepared both the proofreading of FE3 and the base text to EE, this kind of correction could have been prepared also by a reviser.

Repeated octave in GC (→GE) & FE

Tied octave in EE

..

It seems to be likely that no ties sustaining the g2-g3 octave in GC (→GE) and FE is only a result of Chopin's oversight in [A] – cf. the note to bar 197. The ties were probably added by Chopin in the base text to EE
