b. 36

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

No sign in sources

[] suggested by the editors

..

The lack of a  sign should be considered an oversight in this context, by Chopin or the engraver of FE. In the main text, we suggest pedaling supplemented in the manner of bar 34.

b. 36

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

..

In As one can see that before the 2nd quaver of the lower R.H. voice a  was initially entered. Chopin then changed it to a  and probably added a cautionary one before the a in the L.H. The accidental in the R.H. is also present in the version prepared for publication.

The omission of the note f is a characteristic, subtle example of Chopin's sound economy.

g in chords in As, FE2 (→EE) & GE3

No g in FE1 (→GE1GE2)

..

The version of FE1 – the 2nd and 3rd crotchets without g – could have been temporarily considered by Chopin. According to us, however, it is more likely that we are dealing with an oversight, which was then corrected in FE2. Both notes were added in GE3, probably on the basis of a comparison with FE2.
