b. 29-56

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

..

As is a typical sketch, practically devoid of performance instructions – the only exception is the slur connecting the grace note with the 1st crotchet of bar 41 and perhaps a staccato dot above this crotchet. We do not treat the lack of markings as variants, as they are only a feature of the sketchy nature of this manuscript.

b. 29

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

f1-g1 in As

e1-f1 in FE (→GE,EE)

..

As in bar 21, in As the melodic voice is moved one second higher compared to the final version. The remaining voices are not written out, which hints – also as in bar 21 – at repeating the version of bar 17.

b. 30-31

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

c1 repeated in As & FE (→EEW,GE1GE2)

c1 tied in GE3

..

The tie to c1 was added in GE3 probably by analogy with bars 22-23. The Chopinesque fingering in FES confirms that c1 should be played in bar 31.

b. 30

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

Dotted rhythm in As

Rhythm with rest in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the published version, Chopin decided to notate the rhythm with a semiquaver rest instead of extending the first quaver of the bar. The two-bar slur indicates that the natural flow and emphasis of the phrase should remain intact.

b. 30

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

No ornament in As

in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The absence of mordent in As could be considered an inaccuracy related to the sketchy nature of this manuscript, but for the fact that in bar 22  is not included in the version prepared for print. It could only have been a coincidence – the inaccuracy of As here and, for example, the oversight by the engraver of FE in bar 22 – but Chopin's hesitation cannot be completely ruled out.
