Issues : Inaccuracies in A

b. 87-88

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

No markings in A

   in bar 88 in FE

   in GE & EE

..

at the beginning of b. 87 is the only pedal marking in these bars in A. It is almost certainly an oversight by Chopin, who resumed writing markings after transitioning to a new line. FE (→GE,EE) added markings in b. 88, most probably at Chopin's request, while GE and EE also added a  at the end of b. 87.

b. 93

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A, there is no  raising e1 to e1. The patent inaccuracy was corrected by FE (→GE,EE). It is noteworthy that in A the  to the 4th quaver, e3, was inserted between the already written down noteheads.

b. 95-102

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

A left out a few naturals to e notes (in various octaves) in b. 95-96 and 99-102. The patent inaccuracies were corrected in the subsequent editions; the fully correct version is included only in GE and EE3.

b. 106-109

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A, 8 accidentals are missing: naturals to e in b. 106, e1 in b. 106, 107 and 109, b and b2 in b. 108 and sharps to c3 in b. 107 and f1 in b. 108. FE (→GE1GE2,GE1a) added 5 accidentals, as a result of which it was only the naturals to e1 in b. 107 and 109 and to b2 in b. 108 that were missing. The mark in b. 109 was added by EE, while the one in b. 108 by GE3 (→GE4) and EE3. None of the sources includes the natural to e1 in b. 107.
(Due to the 4th L.H. crotchet in b. 107-108 having been placed on the top stave in A, a  to c1 in b. 107 and a  to b in b. 108 are missing too. In the layout adopted by the editions and in our transcriptions, these accidentals are not necessary.)

b. 118-120

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

Long accents in A, contextual interpretation

Short accents in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The long accents in A of the Ballade are not always written down in a clear manner. In the case of the marks in b. 118 and 120, the musical context, however, clearly supports such an interpretation of both marks. However, it is difficult to consider the interpretation of FE (→GE,EE) faulty, particularly since the mark representing a long accent did not belong to the standard set of marks back then.
