It is difficult to say whether the missing diminuendo resulted from an oversight of the engraver of FE (→GE,EE) or from Chopin's proofreading. In A, the indication is very clear, hence there are no visible reasons why someone would not notice it; on the other hand, there are no traces of it having been removed in FE. In this situation, in the main text we follow the version of FE, our principal source, proofread by Chopin twice.
