L.H. accents in FE (→EE)

R.H. & L.H. accents in GE

..

The accents above the 2nd crotchet in bars 235 and 237 were added while proofreading FE, undoubtedly by Chopin. Assignment of the sign in bar 235 to the R.H. is probably the result of misinterpretation of the notation in FE by the engraver of GE, who believed that this accent, like the neighbouring ones, refers to the R.H. despite its lower position.

Staccato dot in A

No mark in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the available photograph of A, it seems that below the horizontal line of the second f letter of the  marking, there is a staccato dot concerning the B-b octave. Its absence in FE (→GE,EE) can be explained by the fact that the marks blend into each other; therefore, we include it in the main text. Due to the uncertainty of interpretation, made on the basis of a blurred photograph, the version of the editions may be considered an equal variant.

Accent in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the main text we give the accent added probably by Chopin in the stage of proofreading FE (→GE,EE) instead of , which was present in A. There are a few examples of Chopin reducing the number of  markings in the refinement stage, e.g. in the Etudes, Op. 10 – in A minor, No. 2 or in E, No. 11.

Accent in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The accent added in the stage of proofreading FE (→GE,EE) almost certainly comes from Chopin, hence we introduce it into the main text.
