Issues : Omissions to cancel alteration
b. 16
|
composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor
..
In the main text we include the naturals before the penultimate R.H. octave (d3-d4) present in GE and EE. The absence of those accidentals in FE suggests that they were not included in the manuscripts and that the revisers of EE and GE added them while correcting an overlooked cancellation of alteration (typical of Chopin). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Omissions to cancel alteration , GE revisions , Errors repeated in FE |

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

In FE (→EE1) there is no restoring g2 in the last octave in the bar. The mistake was corrected in EE2 (→EE3) by adding sharps next to both notes of that octave; the same notation can be found in GE. In the main text we include only the necessary next to g2. Likewise in b. 67. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Omissions to cancel alteration , GE revisions , Errors repeated in FE , Errors repeated in EE |

As was the case with b. 41, in FE (→EE1) there is no restoring g2 in the last octave in the bar. The mistake was corrected in EE2 (→EE3), where sharps were added next to both notes of that octave. The same version is in GE, which is also almost certainly an editorial revision, since these accidentals are absent in b. 274 and 300, which were marked in [A] in an abridged manner as a repetition of b. 41 and 67 and, consequently, could not differ from them. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Omissions to cancel alteration , GE revisions , Errors repeated in FE , Errors repeated in EE |

FE1 lacks both the raising e1 to e1 at the beginning of the bar, and the restoring e1 two quavers later. In EE1 only a before the 1st quaver was added, while in FE2 was also added only a , but before the 3rd quaver! Therefore, it was either misplaced or supposed to be a . The text of GE and EE2 (→EE3) is correct. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Omissions to cancel alteration , Omission of current key accidentals , FE revisions , Errors repeated in EE |
