b. 44

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Quavers e-b in GE

Quavers c-e-b in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we include the c notes that Chopin (almost certainly) added to the four quaver chords while proofreading FE (→EE).

b. 44

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Slur to minim in GE

Slur to end of bar in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give a slur/tenuto (typical of Chopin) after FE. The shorter slur of GE may be authentic; however, it cannot be ruled out that it was adjusted to the notes on the top stave by the engraver (i.e. shortened). The same applies to b. 277.

b. 44-46

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

 in GE

in FE (→EE)

..

The trills in b. 44 and 46 are written in GE without a wavy line after . In the main text we follow the more suggestive version of notation of FE (→EE).

In the main text we suggest supplementing the Chopinesque pedalling after analogous b. 19.

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

The cautionary  to e1 is missing in GE (a similar situation can be found in b. 71). In both places the accidentals were probably entered into FE at the stage of proofreading, since they are absent in b. 278 and 304, which were almost certainly not written out in full in the manuscripts, only marked as a repetition of b. 45 and 71. The absence of respective amendments in the final part of the Polonaise may point to Chopin as author of those additions.
