Slurs
b. 261-263

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

The L.H. slurs, added by GE2, are an arbitrary revision, probably related to the fact that the R.H. part was moved to the top stave (cf. b. 250-260). category imprint: Differences between sources; Source & stylistic information issues: GE revisions |

The division of the slurs in FE (→EE) could have been caused by, e.g. an inaccurate notation of the handwritten basis in the transition to a new line. Therefore, in the main text we give the slur of GE, which does not raise any source or stylistic doubts. category imprint: Differences between sources |

It is uncertain whether the two triplet slurs, added probably at the stage of proofreading of FE (→EE), were supposed to have any other meaning according to the person who was entering them (perhaps Chopin), e.g. motivic or concerning articulation. We do not include them in the main text and thus keep the notation of the corresponding bars (b. 50 and 283) in the first and final sections of the Polonaise coherent, as intended by the composer. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: FE revisions |
