Title: | Twenty four Grand Préludes through all Keys |
Dedication: | His Friend Camille Pleyel |
First English edition in which the whole Op. 28 was divided into two fascicules bearing consecutive plate numbers (3098 & 3099), and containing respectively 14 and 10 preludes. EE1 is based on FE2, with some arbitrary revisions, i. a. the fingering added in this and a few other preludes – see Prelude in C no. 1. Chopin had no part in preparing the edition.
In the Prelude in D minor the introduced changes include:
- arbitrarily changed rhythmic values of the grace notes in b. 7 from quavers to semiquavers;
- multiple additions of accidentals which were omitted by Chopin (mostly in obvious situations), e.g. in b. 18, 32, 34 and 36, 35, 36, 41-42 or 72;
- an arbitrary addition of rests on the upper staff in the ending of the piece.
Errors of EE1 are, e.g.:
- omissions of signs in bars 10 i 15-16,
- omissions of ties in bars 21-23, 49-50,
- a false correction of the erroneous c into e in b. 42,
- omission of the wedge at the beginning of b. 59;
- omission of L.H. slurs in b. 70;
- a wrong fingering digit in b. 74.
