Dedication: | Son ami J. C. Kessler |
GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
In this Prelude accidentals were supplemented, e.g. in b. 18, 35, 36.
The more obvious flaws of GE1 include:
- pitch mistakes, e.g. a1 instead of b1 in b. 5, e1 instead of f1 in b. 23, c instead of e in b. 26, c4 instead of d4 in b. 36, e (e?) instead of g in b. 42.
- oversights, e.g. accent in b. 18, pedal markings in b. 28-29.
