Title: | Vingt-quatre Préludes |
Dedication: | Son ami J. C. Kessler |
GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
In this Prelude a few Terzverschreibung mistakes were committed in GE1, in b. 2, 5, 21, 24, as well as a few others, probably as a result of confusion between similar figures or bars, in b. 53, 59 and 61. Moreover, the additional crotchet stems in b. 63 were overlooked, and the direction of the dynamic hairpin in b. 52 was changed.
Positive changes include added overlooked accidentals, e.g. in b. 3 and 11, 13, 14-15, 17-20. However, GE1 did not manage to correct all inaccuracies, e.g. in b. 17 and 20.
