Issues : Inaccurate slurs in A

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 43, Tarantella

..

In A and FC3 the transition of bars 19-20 corresponds with the the transition of systems. In A the slur beginning on the last quaver in b. 7 extends beyond the end of the system, putting in question its actual ending, similarly in FC3.

With most probability this is why it is difficult to determine the actual ending of the slur in all first editions. In FE and IE the end of b. 19 also correspnds with the end of the system and here the slur ends on the last note of b. 19. In EE and GE bars 19-20 are in the middle of the system and here the slur was extended until the first note of b. 20. In the main text we present the second variant.

b. 39-40

composition: Op. 43, Tarantella

A, FC3 (→FEIE), EE

In all sources except GE the slur over the phrase spanning bars 36-43 is divided over the barline between bars 39-40 on the tied c1-echord. We leave an undivided slur in line with corresponding bars 23-24.

In FC3 (→FEIE) as well as in our proposed version the slur extends over to b. 131. In A and GE the slur ends before the end of b. 130, while in EE it ends on the third note in RH in b. 131.

In GE3 (>GE4esis tied over to the next bar. In A and FC3 there is a tiny tie on the chord in the second half of b. 223 that must have been left by Chopin by mistake as continuation from previous markings. It does not resemble any of the ties Chopin used. The slur in GE3 (>GE4) is either an arbitrary revision of this editon or - if it was also present in [FC1] - a mistakenly interpreted tie, as described above.
