EE1 - First English edition
Publisher: | Wessel & Stapleton |
Date: | VII-VIII 1842 |
Plate number: | W & S. No 5303. |
Title: | Eighth Set of Mazurkas || No. 3. |
Dedication: | Mister Henry Field, of Bath |
EE1 is based on a proof copy of FE1 that did not contain the group of the last changes introduced by Chopin – see the characterization of FE1. Certain errors of FE, corrected during the last stage of proofreading, are preserved in EE1, e.g. the lack of raising a1 to a
1 in b. 6. The edition does not bear any traces of Chopin's participation in its development; however, it was revised:
- cautionary accidentals were added, e.g.
before f
1 in b. 7 and 9, before c
1 in b. 162, naturals before b and a in b. 33;
- the necessary
before the last quaver in b. 34 (f
) was added;
- the L.H. slur in b. 119 was extended into b. 120;
- the two-part notation in b. 134-140 was erroneously modified.
We also find a few mistakes in EE1, e.g. d1 instead of c
1 in b. 50, omitted slurs in b. 69-92.
The copy of EE1 presented in mUltimate Chopin probably comes from the beginning of 1843, which is indicated by the content of the title page*.
