b. 494-496

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

In b. 494 and 496 Chopin crossed out the sharps before c2 in A. In fact, they are not necessary, yet in the main text we add them as cautionary accidentals. They were also added in GE2 (→GE3). In a few other places one can see that the composer inserted accidentals as if the key signature corresponded to the G minor key. He then crossed out some of them and left some others, perhaps on purpose as cautionary accidentals: cf. b. 492, 497, 500-504 and 501-503

b. 496

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

B in A (→FE,FCGE) & EE2 (→EE3)

B in EE1

..

The version of EE1 must be erroneous. It was corrected in EE2 (→EE3) in accordance with the harmonic logic and the Stichvorlage (FE).

b. 497

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

In the main text we add a cautionary  before f2. In analogous b. 493 the accidental is present in A and all the remaining sources. Moreover, Chopin probably hesitated in that respect, since the crossing-out visible there probably concerns the  before that note, which means that it must have been entered twice.

b. 498-499

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

In A there are visible crossings-out on the 3rd beat of these bars. In both places it was probably the original version of those crotchets, i.e. the d-g fourth.

b. 499-500

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

Chopin overlooked in A (→FC,FE) two indispensable naturals: lowering g2 to g2 in b. 499 and c2 to c2 in b. 500. The former was added in GE1, the latter – in EE. It is only GE2 (→GE3) that contains the correct text.
