b. 72

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

No rest symbol in A (→GEFEEE)

A rest suggested by the editors

..

The rhythmic values of the lower voice do not fill the entire bar, which frequently occurs in Chopin's works. In this case we are adding a rest in order to prevent any attempts to prolong the crotchet a flat1 (because of hand span, such attempts were not probably intended by Chopin).

b. 73

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

In A (→GEFEEE) there is a cautionary  before the 5th semiquaver g flat2 . We do not give that sign in the main text as the harmonic background – the simultaneous g flat  in the  L.H. – precludes the possibility of playing g2 that could cross the performer's mind because of the close imitation of the upper voice. Cf. bar 71

b. 73

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

No slur in A (→GEFEEE)

Suggested slur addition to supplement the notation

..

The absence of a slur for the lower voice must be considered Chopin's accidental omission (see analogous bar 71).

b. 73

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

expanded in A

condensed in  GE (→FEEE)

..

The indication smorzando is written in A over the entire bar, as Chopin visibly tried to stretch the word as much as he could. We reproduce that nuance of notation in a conventional manner, breaking the word into syllables. In GE (→FEEE) it was written as one word at the beginning of the bar.
