b. 45

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

A flat before g flat3 is written in A not before the head of the note but much lower. That type of peculiar notation is often encountered in Chopin's manuscripts.

Dynamic markings of A

Deletions and additions in FED

Changes written into FEJ

Changes in FES

Changes in FEFr

Our suggestion based on FEJ & FED

..

In particular sources, dynamic markings in those bars differ significantly. The version of A reproduced – despite various inaccuracies - in GE (→FEEE) was later fundamentally changed, which can be seen in energetic deletions and additions in teaching copies and FEFr.

The end of the slur in A

GE (→FEEE)

..

Although the slur in A fails to reach f2 in bar 46, but its shape suggests it should end on that note. The notation is not quite clear, so it is difficult to blame the engraver of GE (→FEEE) for interpreting the slur in a different way.
