The missing dot extending the crotchet in the metronome marking in the editions is most probably a mistake. The dot is also imperceptible on the photo of FED, which – provided it is a faithful reflection of the situation – is also an inaccuracy. The slightly calmer tempo indicated by Chopin in FED could have been a teaching comment directed to Miss O'Méara only, hence it cannot be considered a proof of modification of the tempo concept of Andante. Therefore, in the main text we suggest a variant solution. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Annotations in teaching copies , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED |

The change of the layout of the two segments of the indication applied in GE was probably aimed at making the gaps between the words regular. However, the earlier appearance of the second segment may suggest an earlier beginning of rallentando, which was perhaps unintended by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

FE feature accellerando (with doubled 'l') in this place. The mistake, certainly coming from Chopin (cf., e.g. the Impromptu in A Major, Op. 29, b. 25), was corrected both in GE and EE. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Errors repeated in FE |

In GE the sempre dim. indication was subjected to minor editorial actions: the dim. abbreviation was extended to dimin. and it was moved to b. 62, closer to sempre. Formally, the changes do not influence the meaning of the indication, since the word sempre ensures its validity to the end of this section; however, they slightly impair the visual impression of extension of the range of its validity. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

The presence of dolce in EE may be explained by a revision, in this case not based on a comparison with an analogous place. It is also likely that it is an authentic, earlier indication, removed in FE (→EE) in the last phase of proofreading. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |
