b. 430-433

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Double slurs in A & GE2

Single slurs in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The engraver of GE1 (→FEEE) may have considered the double slurs to be an unnecessary complication. Cf. bars 472-480.

b. 430

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

 in A & GE2

No sign in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The omission of the  hairpin in GE1 (→FEEE) must be an oversight of the engraver. The sign was added in GE2 on the basis of A.

Long accent in A, possible interpretation

 w A (probable interpretation→GE)

No sign in FE (→EE)

..

The mark placed at the beginning of this bar in A may be interpreted as a long accent, after bar 429, or as a , like in bars 477 and 479, similar in terms of structure. In the main text we include the latter option, in accordance with the way in which the sign was reproduced in GE. The absence of the sign in the remaining editions is most probably a result of an oversight.

f2 tied in A, contextual interpretation

f2 repeated in GE (→FEEE)

..

In A, the tie sustaining fis written only in bar 433, opening a new page in A. It could have been a reason for its omission in GE (→FEEE).

In A the notation of accidentals in this bar is inaccurate:

  • there is only one  before the 1st chord in the R.H.; moreover, it is written in such a way that one cannot be certain which note it concerns (we assume that it is d3),
  • in each of the triplets, a  is only before the 1st note,
  • no  before the bottom note of the third in the L.H. on the 3rd beat of the bar.

The necessary signs were added already in GE1 (→FE); however, the  before the bottom note of the octave in the L.H. at the beginning of the bar was overlooked. EE and GE2 feature the correct notation.
