b. 81

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

Three-note chord in A

Sixth in GE (→FEEE)

..

Omission of the b note in the penultimate chord is probably a result of an inaccurate interpretation of A, in which the note may be considered to be written by mistake. A comparison with analogous bar 32 shows that in both places Chopin meant the a-b-fchord.

Only E in A (→GEFE)

Octave in EE

Similarly as in analogous bar 33, we assume that the Chopin correction in A in bar 14 was probably to be valid also at the repetitions of this bar. In the discussed bar – differently than in bar 33 – such an addition was introduced also in EE, most probably by analogy with bar 14.

b. 83

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

Sixth e2-c3 in A

Octave c2-c3 in GE1 (→FE)

Octave e2-e3 in EE, FED, FEJ, FES & GE2

..

Both the sixth present in A and the c2-coctave in GE1 (→FE) are almost certainly mistakes – cf. analogous bar 15. In A Chopin wrote one ledger line too little (errors in the number of ledger lines are – except for accidentals – definitely the most frequent type of his pitch errors), whereas the change in GE1 may be explained by an editorial revision, a misunderstanding at the time of proofreading or a common mistake. Chopin wrote the correct text in all three pupils' copies. The version of EE and GE2 are most probably revisions, introduced on the basis of comparison with analogous bar 15.

In FE the minim in the 2nd half of the bar is an erroneous c1-d1. The mistake was corrected in EE as well as in FES.

e2 in chord in A & GE2

No e2 in GE1 (→FEEE)

The missing enote in the last chord is either a mere oversight of the engraver of GE1 or – which is more likely – a side effect of the proofreading of the slurring. In analogous bar 19, all sources include a five-note chord.
