Slurs

b. 205-207

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slur in A (contextual interpretation) & GE2

No slur in GE1 (→FEEE1)

Slur in EE2 (→EE3)

..

In bars 205-206, ending the page in A, the slur is led only over the R.H. However, on a new page, in bar 207 the ending of the slur is written in the parts of both hands. It can be simply an insignificant mistake, yet, according to us, writing the slur also in the L.H. proves that Chopin was convinced that he wrote slurs for both hands in the previous bars. Perhaps the slur in GE2 was added on that basis – it is absent in GE1 (→FEEE1). A slur added only in bar 206 in EE2 (→EE3) is absolutely arbitrary. See also bars 212-213.

b. 206-207

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slur break in A & GE2

Slur break in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

Moving the moment of the slurs' division is a typical inaccuracy of GE1 (→FEEE), corrected in GE2. Similarly a bar further.

b. 207-208

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

2nd slur over 2nd half of bar in A

2nd slur from minim in GE

Contiguous slurs in FE

One slur in EE

..

The clear and coherent slurring of A is certainly the only authentic one. Initially, the engraver of GE1 replaced the Chopin slurs with whole-bar ones (same as one bar earlier); it was in the proofreading only that the right-hand ending of the slur beginning in bar 208 was drawn to bar 209. At the same time, the slur in bar 207 is so inaccurate that in FE it was led further on, until the minim in bar 208. As a result, in FE both slurs coincide on this chord, which EE interpreted arbitrarily as a combination of slurs.

b. 208-209

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

No slur in sources

Slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we add the slur in the part of the L.H. Chopin probably considered the slur over the crotchets in the R.H. to be referring to the entire block of the harmonic filling.

b. 209-211

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

No slur in A (→GEFE)

Slur to end of bar 210 in EE

Slur to bar 211 suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we add a slur in the L.H. after the reconstructed slur in A in bars 205-207. EE also added a slur, based on the erroneous slur of the R.H.
