Slurs
b. 109-110

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

In GC (→GE) one slur embraces the part of the L.H. in both bars. The shorter slur, including only the reminiscence of the initial motif of the Sonata in bar 110, added by Chopin in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4) and in the base text to EE, is certainly later and – according to us – it can be considered to be the final version. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of EE |

Similarly to bar 108, the absence of the L.H. slur in FE (→EE1) could have been an oversight by the engraver of FE (rectified in EE2) or Chopin added this slur in #FC (→GE). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccuracies in FE |

In GE, the L.H. slurs encompass the entire bars. It possibly results from a misinterpretation of the hardly legible writing of GC (intermittent ink flow). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

In the main text we suggest a slur in which we assemble the most reliable elements of source versions – musically and pianistically natural beginning of the phrase in bar 129 after GC (→GE) and a non-separated slur in bars 130-131 after the Chopinesque proofreading of FE3 (→FE4) and base text to EE. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of EE |
