GC (→GE) has a cautionary before the minim g2. The missing sign in FE (→EE) could be an oversight by the engraver. However, the sign is superfluous here and we do not include it in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |

In the main text we give the version of FE4, being probably a result of Chopin's proofreading. Both source versions are equally justified with the voice leading:

[A] most probably included wedges, as Gutmann considered them to be staccato dots on a number of occasions (cf., e.g., the Etude in F major, Op. 25 No. 3, bars 49-52). Chopin wedges were actually often misinterpreted as dots also by the engravers, in turn, misinterpretation of dots as wedges was almost inexistent. Therefore, in the main text we give wedges, added in FE2 (→EE,FE3→FE4) most probably on the basis of [A]. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , FE revisions , Wedges , Inaccuracies in GC |

It is unknown how the discrepancies between the dynamic indications of the sources based on [A], i.e. GC and FE, occurred. In each of these sources, one can assume both an inaccurate interpretation of [A] and Chopinesque corrections or additions (in the case of FE they would be corrections in [A] introduced already after GC had been finished). In the main text we give the version of the base source (FE4), yet the version of GC may be considered an equal variant. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Scope of dynamic hairpins |
