b. 1-30

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

In GC bars 1-69 are provided with numbers (numbers of bars). The numeration is a part of the abbreviated notation of bars 189-257 as a repetition of a respective fragment of the initial section. This manner of notation, characteristic for Chopin, was certainly used also in [A].

b. 36-37

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Double bar-line in GC (→GE)

Single bar-line in FE (→EE)

..

The double bar line was added in GC most probably by Chopin. According to us, it did not result from the will of indicating a musically relevant division, it was only aimed at facilitating the orientation in the abbreviated notation of the return of the main section of the Scherzo – Chopin added a double bar line also after the relevant bar of the recapitulation (bar 224). Therefore, in the main text we preserve the original notation of [A] (→FE) without the double bar line.

b. 168

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

In GC the bar is written in an abbreviated manner as repetition of the previous one. At the same time, one can see that initially the bar was completely overlooked, whereas a relevant abbreviation was written as an addition. It cannot be excluded that the mistake (or unclear notation) was also in [A]. If so, Chopin had to write a respective addition also there, as FE contains the correct number of bars.
